Legal Australia-Wide Survey: Legal Need in Australia

Posted: 19-Oct-2012

The long-awaited report by the Law and Justice Foundation of NSW into legal need in Australia was launched at Parliament House last Thursday.

The LAW Survey provides the first comprehensive quantitative assessment of legal needs in Australia. Based on evidence from 20,716 respondents across the country, including over 2,000 in each state and territory, the LAW Survey provides an in-depth analysis of legal need at both the state/territory and national levels.

It examines the nature of legal problems people experience, the impact of legal problems on people’s lives, how people go about resolving legal problems, and the demographic groups that are particularly vulnerable to experiencing legal problems.

You can view the report online via the Legal Aid ACT website at Legal Aid ACT's website or go direct to the National Legal Aid website.

The LAW survey was commissioned by the eight state and territory legal aid commissions and is the largest survey of its kind conducted anywhere in the world.

In addition to the national report separate reports have been prepared for each state and territory. The ACT report, based on a survey of 2,035 people in the Territory, will be launched in November.
